Keep your costs under control with suitable billing models

Many software manufacturers are moving between classic licensing concepts (one-time purchase plus possible maintenance) to subscription models (time-limited usage rights). Licensing agreements with subscriptions usually allow the license quantity to be adjusted upwards (increased demand) or downwards (reduced demand) depending on requirements. In order to derive the greatest possible benefit from this gain in flexibility, regular demand/usage evaluations are required on the one hand, and suitable billing models on the other.

What is IT controlling?

IT controlling is where key figures for projects, processes and systems come together. Consequently, IT controlling is closely linked to IT asset management and relies on its input. One of the main tasks of IT controlling is to determine and allocate all IT costs incurred. This includes, for example, costs for the use of hardware and software, services, support readiness and the distribution and allocation of costs according to the IT usage determined in IT asset management.

Your advantages of professional IT controlling:

Cost transparency

With an optimized internal charging model (charge-back model), it is possible to say exactly who (department, division, cost center) is responsible for which costs of what IT services. Together with IT asset management, it is possible to assess whether the hardware and software provided is actually being used.

Cost savings

The principle of only having to pay for what is actually used motivates a company/authority to critically examine IT costs. If then only what is really needed is procured, IT costs can be reduced sustainably.

"Equity"

IT costs money. The decisive factor for the acceptance of an allocation model for IT costs is the methodology for allocating the costs incurred to a workstation, user type, service, etc. The more precisely the intensity of use is taken into account and the more comprehensible the calculation, the lower the internal resistance.

Tasks of IT controlling

Due to the ever-increasing complexity caused by digitalization, among other things, IT controlling is constantly faced with new challenges. Two key areas of IT controlling are chargeback (internal accounting) and FinOps.

Chargeback

Chargeback (internal allocation) ensures that costs are allocated to the departments or parts of the company where the costs are actually incurred. With an effective and efficient chargeback model, costs can be saved and tracked. We help you to implement a chargeback model that is tailored to your company.

Finops

FinOps or "cloud cost management" deals with the costs incurred by cloud usage. Unlike on-premise products, which are purchased once, cloud software or services are paid for according to use / performance. Classically, the costs for cloud use in companies continue to rise steadily and uncontrollably. FinOps describes the activity of making the costs for cloud usage obsolete and of course lower.
